3 reasons why women prefer to hire a female private investigator

Private Investigators in New Zealand are predominantly male and while there is no real difference in the service you’ll receive from a male rather than a female private investigator, women are increasingly choosing to work with their gender counterparts.

1. A female private investigator better understands what another female is going through

Along with the stress and uncertainty of the future of their relationship, women who suspect their husband or partner is cheating on them can often also be grappling with feelings of shame, guilt or lack of self-esteem. Many women can (wrongly) feel that the suspected infidelity is their fault.

Because of this highly emotional situation, hiring a female private investigator is generally more comfortable for those wives or long-term girlfriends seeking answers to their partner’s behaviour because women feel less self-conscious about opening up to another woman.

Women may feel uncomfortable with the alpha-male culture within the private investigation sector and simply want to work with a female PI for a softer approach

Some women also cite a smaller ”embarrassment factor” should they happen to break down in tears in front of a female private investigator rather than a male. Additionally, they may also feel that a female PI has more empathy and better understands what they are going through.

Auckland Female Private Investigator Anna Jeffs has herself experienced the shock and betrayal of a partner’s infidelity when back in 2013 she discovered her boyfriend at the time was engaged to another woman. Amazingly he was also dating 6 other women (not including her) at the same time. It’s fair to say Anna knows exactly what women in this situation are going through.

2. A Female PI has the advantage for blending in.

Due to the predominance of male characters as private detectives in our literature, film and popular culture, many people would assume that a private investigator is most likely to be a male. By hiring a female private eye, it’s easier to leverage this expectation and surveil persons of interest without drawing too much attention.

Additionally, using a female investigator for surveillance on another female means they can go where she goes without ”sticking out” as a male would in certain environments: female toilets, changing rooms, women’s fashion shops, underwear departments, spas and beauty salons etc. It also avoids spooking the female of interest should she notice that she is being followed by a man – which could potentially blow the investigation as the female may be concerned she is being stalked.

3. Women prefer to support other women in business

The issues of gender equality and particularly the gender pay gap are constantly in the media. Many industries continue to be male dominated and private investigations in New Zealand is certainly one of them.

Female clients often choose to work with another female for private investigations as it supports and empowers another woman in business. Servicing not only their own immediate needs for a private investigator but also being part of the solution to the bigger issue: addressing male dominance and wage equality in the industry.

Other women may feel uncomfortable with the perceived alpha-male culture within the private investigation sector and simply want to work with a female PI for a softer approach and a way of working similar to their own.
